We had our last major traing exercise today. The plan was to road bike 50k up to the Manganuku Creek and then scramble up the creek for a couple of hours to the hut and then return and cycle home. It was bloody cold with a frost on the ground when we set off just after 7.15am. Was I pleased my long cycling/trek pants arrived in time!
Can't remember who cycled because it was a big group but here goes; Barry, Lea, Trevor, Destry, Karl, Aaron, Roger, Johnny, Brazil, Teleri, Hedley, Dennis. Teleri and Hedley on MTBs turned around early and Dennis and Brazil headed back at the Manganuku.

Kurt, Jenny and Colin joined us and we changed into trekking shoes and
headed off up the creek. There were heaps of river crossings, some waist deep and it was c-c-ccold! It started to drizzle on the way back and the highlight was the racing inanga, Aaron, taking 2 fully-immersed dives into the creek.

When we spat out on the road the old man of the group, me, jumped into Kurt's taxi and left the rest to bike home! Sorry team I was abit knackered from lugging my hunk of steel up the road earlier.

Don't worry Boss. You made the right decision. I wish I did likewise. The ride back was frantic to say the least. Barry and Lea continually tried to break the B team by laying on constant attacks. Their surges were brutal. They even had the effect of knocking Roger of his bike 200m from the end!
P.S. I can confirm that there were no knifes in your back as a result of your decision.
Freezing ride up there, bone chilling trek and then a wet cold ride back. It's 8pm and I still haven't thawed out!
second photo from top, where's Wally?
Still not as bad as child birth...
The reason I went in the water was to hide my legs and the Opo News prints the where's Wally photo as well!
